‘Better’ is the gauze on the wound called ‘Life’. The experience of mute witnesses to soulless humanity. Visually stirring, ‘Better’ is at once otherworldly as it is visceral. Director’s Note or Statement on the Film ‘Better’ comes from a very personal experience. Though, I did research ‘Intrusions’ a psychological term used to describe a severe form of hallucinations.
DIRECTOR’S NOTE:
I have often questioned and wondered about the inner world of people who are afflicted by mental health issues. And ‘Better’ came to me as a vision in response to my questions. This film is open to interpretation. The most important theme of this film is Art and Artists. An Artist has the ability to reach some of the highest emotional states possible by a human being. Yet, it is likely that a person with certain mental health issues is capable of even greater ‘creative’ thoughts. ‘Better’ developed from this realisation that as an Artist, I sometimes find myself envious of this ‘ability’. I think I draw a direct comparison between an Artist and someone who is called mentally ‘ill’. – Mayuresh
